I’ll take you back to the start. I was a skinny kid, always active always playing sports, you couldn’t keep me indoors. After getting my pocket money I had a choice to make, food or cigs and alcohol! Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it I chose the latter. Before long I got my first job and so I thought brilliant, I don’t have to choose. A couple of years down the line, 235 packets of cigarettes, 400 pints, 50 Jager bombs and 5 stone later I thought enough is enough. I was obese, unhappy with the way I looked and felt and was struggling to breathe after walking up the stairs. I had a thought; this working lark really isn’t for me. I wanted to do something that I truly loved. Something where I could keep active as well as making a difference. I looked online and found a personal training course, my first thought was they’re never going to take me on, like I said, I was obese and was struggling to breathe. I’ll never pass the vigorous test; they’ll take one look at me and say thanks but no thanks. I rang up the office, I was nervous almost trembling with anxiety, they said to me “Hi Dan, we have a few questions to make sure you’re the right fit for this course” I was gripped in fear, I thought I can’t possibly lie about my weight and fitness as they’re going to see me. So, with anticipation I said no problem I’m happy to answer any of your questions. “Brilliant, do you have an intertest in sports?” they replied. I said yes, I certainly do. “Congratulations Mr Middlewood I think you’ll be a perfect fit for the course” I said fantastic. I thought, you see you put your mind to something you can achieve almost anything. So, I went to the training room, they gave me my uniform, I tucked my belly into my trousers, squeezed into the extra-large t shirt I said to myself “I am the best “I’ve made it!” After completion of the course, I started working at Pure gym, after teaching my first spin class I realised I was the most unfit in there. I soon realised that putting on a PT shirt wasn’t enough, maybe I need to start practicing what I preached. What a liberty. 8 years later I am still doing the job I love after trial and error I found systems to help hundreds of people achieve their goals. I want to share the knowledge I have learnt over the years to the whole world. I’ve been on both sides, unfit, unhappy, and unfulfilled. Now I can say I am the happiest I’ve been, and I have learnt that there is more to life than exercising but at the same time you will enjoy the things you love a lot more when you can breathe properly and fit into regular sized clothes. The point is I’ve been there the lowest of the low, but life does get better it’s all up to you to make a change.
