Great Gym!I signed up to this gym about a year ago to fit in some workouts and help de-stress from my university revision and studies. I was initially attracted to the no contract options and the vast network of gyms they have across the country. Being at uni I was back and forth between uni and home a lot, and puregym provided real flexibility and value for money as a student. I initially signed up and went just for the classes and found them really enjoyable. I have to say I never really enjoyed PE at school, or sports teams at university (I'd never consider myself a 'gym bunny' or 'sporty' - AT ALL!), but I really love the vibe at puregym and find myself going 2-3 times a week if my schedule allows.
I do think for beginners the classes may (and I stress 'may') seem a bit daunting (I had to figure out what equipment I would need to begin with) - but I do think the gym instructors have started to remedy this. They do ask if anyone is new / has injuries / what equipment you'll need. Although I wouldn't particularly say I've made friends with anyone in the gym class (I mean what sort of ice-breaker do you use at a gym class, lol), whenever I've asked fellow class attendees for help or assistance they've always been really lovely.
I really love the gym classes on offer - theres a good variety and thankfully they switch up instructors and routines so it doesn't become tedious for regulars. Saying that there are also regular classes which I love and keep coming back for (like Step with Sarah Hendy which is so much fun!). I even attended one gym class on the weekend where I was the only person to turn up - I felt kinda nervous being by myself but the instructor continued the class regardless and was really lovely, which I was really grateful for.
So all in all, I think I'm in love with puregym. I feel that's a big claim for me as I've never stuck with other gyms ( where the class offerings were awful/infrequent). I think its great value for money and totally flexibility, which is important to me. As a recent graduate, I'm not sure where I'm going to be in the next few years job and location-wise, but I'm certain wherever I go, I will sniff the nearest puregym out! I've seen my endurance and strength increase, as well as my confidence, meaning I'm venturing into other spaces in the gym (although I confess I don't always know what on earth I'm doing - but at least I'm trying!). However most importantly for me, I feel I've found a productive space where I can de-stress from life and begin to enjoy exercising again (which I never thought possible!).

Good gym but sometimes missing the basicsI’ve been a member of this gym since it opened and was amazed with how great it was when it first opened, since then standards seem to have slipped, and whilst it’s still a great gym, basic things are often missed.
Cleanliness seems to be at a very high level only, with equipment and the changing rooms often showing poor signs of maintanance and cleanliness. One locker in the male changing rooms has had a protein shake spilt in it for months, so I can only imagine the lockers are never cleaned. One treadmill had a random screw in the cup holder for weeks and bikes/treadmills are often dirty.
The gym itself is excellent value for money, however as a result is rammed during peak hours meaning it’s hard to get a decent work out as there is often not enough equipment unless you’re doing cardio and so you often have to plan work outs around this. The equipment itself is good, but it would be great if there was more, however I appreciate there is only so much you can fit in!
I still love this gym, however it would be great to see just little improvements such as a bigger focus on cleaning and extra facilities such as more than one of popular equipment, mirrors and lockers on the gym floor upstairs. It would also be great to build a sense of community and get to know members.

Classes are very de-motivating for beginnersSigned up for a legs, bums and tums class. When I arrived I told the instructor that I’m new and it’s my first time in the class, he laughed and said ‘me too’. No indication of help on what equipment I needed or where to place it. I gathered by looking at everyone else I needed a step box, mat and weights bar. I didn’t know how to put the step box together, I didn’t know it was different heights, physically struggling and confused and no help from the instructor who could see me because I was the only one fidgeting. There was no beginners steps it will full hardcore into the workout, but no option for me when I was struggling to keep up. After 25 mins I was physically struggling but again no option or help or guidance on different moves I could do or reassurance that it’s okay that I’m tired. I ended up having to stop and run off and was sick immediately into a bin. I’m embarrassed, ashamed and feeling really de-motivated. I feel like I can never return to a class again. I just wish there was support from the instructor and wish he could of gave me different steps when he could see I was having difficulty. I shouldn’t of been pushed to he fact of being sick. As a young girl, walking into a class on my own wanting to improve my health it’s nerve wracking as it is just showing up, but having to run off because I couldn’t feel my legs and I needed to be sick... I just wish there was a beginners option, you can’t expect people to just be able to throw themselves into a 100x max speed work out when they have come from hardly being active. And people like me being ashamed and scared to stop because I don’t want to look bad.

Really great place!I have been going to Pure Gym Newport for over a year now. I have achieved a lot more than I ever thought possible. I never believed that I would be able to feel fit again. I thought it would just be the end of the road for that really.
The best thing I ever did was drop in and sign up. Attending your gym has given me a sense of well being and I enjoy most visits!!
It gives me a place to take charge again, to relax and be more Jess..
I also love the bike, strange but true !!

DisappointedI signed up to pure gym and had a great induction. Day 2 I decide to get up extra early to attend the cycle class 07:00-07:30 6/10/17. At 07:25 no one has come to take the class. Very demotivating when you are new to the gym.
