How to find us
We're based in the Ocean Terminal shopping centre on Ocean Drive, on the second floor next to Debenhams and Pure Spa. And if you fancy a warm-up before you workout, there are bike racks on the ground floor of the car park.
If you're coming by car, pop EH6 6JJ into your SatNav and park in the on-site free parking. You'll find us on Level E.
Alternatively, buses 22, 35 and 34 stop every 10-15 minutes at the front of the shopping centre.
We're just 2.3 miles from Edinburgh Waverley station.

Great general gym, small room for improvementThis gym is in a great safe and convenient location. The free parking is an essential feature and without it the gym would certainly lost members. The equipment is good for general-purpose and is well maintained, although a bit outdated as you can see the newer line in newer PureGyms. I love the heavy dumbbells – that's a big plus for me.
The gym seems to be losing members to new gyms around the city. I think what the gym can do to draw people back in, and keep ordinary members happy, is to have a dedicated weightlifting area with power racks and deadlift platforms, and leave the existing squat racks to the rest of us who don't want to train for powerlifting or weightlifting competition. A lot of members come in and jump in the squat racks to do deadlift, shoulder press, barbel rows, bench press, etc, or the deadlift-press-squat combo, and leave us who want to do squats waiting for them to finish. If I can't do squats then I can't train in a gym.
Finally, I don't really care for the staff, I know what I'm doing, but I feel sorry for those who don't as staff only deal with their clients, they don't do around the gym offering their help. One even told me to don't talk to him when he's with a client, so I don't talk to anyone anymore. Shame, that tells me they don't have that passion for weight training as they don't like talking to like-minded enthusiasts. Besides, some look out of shape and some don't really know their stuff so I don't really care to talk to them. I would never recommend them as a PT. I give them 0 stars if I could.

Good value for moneyGood value for money overall but it’s missing some ab machines like ab crunch or ab coaster. I know that most people use weights and benches but I would prefer to use ab machines. It’s also too warm but I’m glad I’ve chosen pure gym over other gyms in Edinburgh.

Good value for moneyGood location, free parking, good space (when there's lots of people it doesn't feel crowded), good selection of equipment, food maintenance of equipment, good price.
Downsides: Could replace some equipment that hardly anyone uses (e.g. pec dec) and bring in some more fundamental equipment (e.g. incline barbell press, hack squat, another pair of cables, standing calves). Equipment can be reorganised to bring significant improvement (e.g. consolidate equipment for same body part around a closer area, move all cardio to back and bring more machines to front). Equipment seems to be built for very tall people. You get the same basic Matrix equipment you can get many other places. Squat rack pins don't suit my height, they're either too low or too high for squatting. Somehow lately there seems to be fewer plates. Dumbbells have a very narrow centre of gravity and hence heavier ones are difficult to stabilise. Members get in the way by working out in front of the dumbbell rack. PTs get in the way of one really good squat rack by doing ground work close to or under the rack. PTs don't talk to anyone, are not friendly, and despite as advertised they are not there to help but to be paid to help. Changing rooms are not cleaned regularly.
